90th Anniversary of Cub Scouting 2006
Our Cub Pack is part of High Peak District
within the County of Derbyshire. In September 2006 all the Cubs from the
District were invited to take part in a Hike to celebrate the 90th Anniversary
of the founding of Cub Scouts. It was great fun, we mixed with
Cubs from other packs and took place in a quiz during the walk.
Some of us had parents with us, the event was sponsored
by Highland Spring who kindly donated bottled water so we didn't dehydrate on
the walk. At the end of the walk we found out who else had sponsored the walk,
it was Swizzels Matlow. They had kindly sent sweets which we all eagerly
consumed at the end of the walk.
Our District Commissioner came along and
talked to us about Cub Scouting and gave us a view of how big Scouting really is
and how we fitted into the worldwide picture. Below are some pictures taken on
the day of the walk which was blessed with excellent weather. Our District
Fellowship team came along and helped ensure that the day was a great success.
As Cubs we walked around Fernilee Reservoir
in the Goyt Valley but some of our intrepid leaders walked in from our group
headquarters all over the High Peak. In total the combined distance that we
walked was 300 miles.
