In
1973 the committee decided our own HQ was a great
idea ..........................
.....many
years passed with a few faltered initiatives but in
2006 our then meeting hall in the Harpur Methodist
Church School room was full to bursting point. No
clear "affordable" solutions presented
themselves, however Chris & Lesley located a prefabricated building
that was
vacant on the old Harpur Campus of the University of
Derby. Approach
to the University indicated that it was destined for
land fill but they would be
prepared to donate the building if we could move it and find somewhere to resite it .....the
hunt was on. Various discussions led ultimately to
the Buxton Rugby Club agreeing a 99 year lease on a
piece of ground that was in much need of tidying.
September
2009 work underway at the University of Derby Harpur
Campus site with the first volunteer working party clearing a way through the trees for
the building to be moved.
The
building itself had to be cut away from the surrounding
undergrowth
In
October 2009 work got underway at the Rugby Club site with a
volunteer working party clearing the proposed site. The
ground works went ahead despite the weather - early
November 2009
Move
day dawned on Friday 6th November 2009 with a beautiful
sunrise over the buildings old home
And
we heaved a big sigh at the end of a very long day
as the last section was moved into place
Soon
afterwards new windows were installed and inside,
partition removal got under way
Plaster
board was removed where no longer required
With
new windows and removal
of interior walls there was a lot more space &
light
Nothing
was wasted, Chris sorts and stacks the recovered wood
carefully as he plans to reuse
in the build phase
Christmas
- New Year period saw a lot of snow
How
ever despite the cold, the interior partitions moved
ahead
The
building has a large amount of space still for the
main meeting hall
The
new doors get fitted
The
kitchen being installed
Toilet
installation underway
Mean
while Dave McDonald plasters the walls ....
.....
and ceilings
There
are a lot of electric cables to be
installed
Difficult
keeping everything on track ... but it is
and
the fencing gets erected outside whilst work
continues inside.
